Viagra how it works

Viagra contains slidenafile citrate and is the generic name given to the drug, manufactured by Pfizer, the largest drug manufacturing company. The overnight success of Viagra, has given rise to many myths about the drug.

Primarily, Viagra can be used by men who suffer from erectile dysfunction ED. But it cannot be used to stimulate sexual activity and is not protected against sexually transmitted diseases. In fact, stronger doses of Viagra are used in treating high blood pressure in the lungs.

Viagra works by enhancing the blood flow to the genital parts and its surrounding areas. The blood arteries that surround the genital areas get a boost through the intake of this drug. This results in rectifying ED and the desired effect is achieved.

A recommended dose of Viagra will be active for four hours. It starts working in about 45 minutes after its intake. The underlying fact is that Viagra is not aphrodisiac, that is, it is not a stimulant for sex drive. It can never enhance the sex drive in men but only acts as a drug for ED.

While looking at the details of how Viagra acts on men, scientists found that the human body produces 11 different kinds of PDE and only one of those 11 kinds is found in the genital parts of men. Then, it was an easy task to find a drug to block PDE5, found in genital parts, selectively. This was achieved through the chemical slidenafile citrate. This would result in increased blood flow to the genital part, which was the objective of manufacturing Viagra. The other parts of the body remain unaffected.
